Children’s Religious Education

The passing on of our Catholic Faith and traditions is the key focus of our Religious Education (RE) program. We see our mission as supportive to families as they raise their children in the Catholic faith. We meet most Wednesdays during the academic year in the afternoon. Our afternoon session is scheduled from 4:30-5:45 PM. Classes take place in our Meeting House. All classes are in English, Levels 1-8.

In addition to regular classes, during the course of the year, special “all-family” events will be held requiring the participation of the whole family. Usually these are liturgical events to help the children experience the richness of our Catholic traditions and prayers. Families are encouraged and expected to attend Mass each weekend.

For students preparing for Sacraments, there is a two year minimum of preparation in keeping with Archdiocesan policies.  Families receive a supplemental calendar outlining what is required. This calendar is provided during the academic year in which the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation will be celebrated.

Our RE classes are small with trained, dedicated, volunteer catechists who give generously of their time. We are always looking for additional catechists and catechist aides to serve full time or to serve as a substitute. Virtus training (a free, 3 hour course required by the Archdiocese for the protection of children) is required as well as a criminal background check and other compliance items.

Registration is currently being accepted for the 2017-18 academic year.  Registration for Religious Education classes is being held now and will continue through August.  After August 1st, books and supplies will need to be ordered and prepared.  If your child has not been registered prior to August 1st, and classes are full, a wait list will be established.  A late fee for registration is assessed after May 31, so please register as soon as possible.

To register your child for the current school year, please contact the Religious Education Department at 847-437-6208, ext. 129 or 120 or download the necessary forms and drop them off at the Parish Office..

The RCIA/C is a process for Children who have reached the age of 7 and have not yet been baptized.  For children at St. Cecilia, the process includes weekly class sessions with their peers at the appropriate level and attendance at Mass each week. During the 2nd year of preparation, additional sessions with parents are scheduled for more proximate preparation to Baptism and/or other Sacraments.  For more information or to enroll your child, please call the office.
